I was incredibly lucky to be in Kuala Lumpur during the Hindu festival Thaipusam at Batu Cave. The scale of what was happening adds monumentality and importance to the place.
It is amazing how much power and secrets the architecture of the past holds in itself. The temple architecture of Asia explodes my mind with a variety of details and the brightness of colours.
On the day of the festival, I couldn’t really concentrate on the world around us when all the attention was focused on the rituals and the people who follow their traditions.
In the beginning, I was trying to find a nice composition to take pictures of 272 steps and temple in the cave.. but the atmosphere there was too chaotic and vibrant to be focused on just architecture itself. I let myself to flow with a crowd of people up and down the stairs admiring the different culture and losing my mind in the music.
I tried to choose just the best shots of this “event” to show my “amazing” skills as a photographer but I gave up on it. These pictures are not about me or my skills, these captured moments are about the diversity of our world and importance not to lose our identity.
